Art Technique Workshops (Friday Afternoons 4pm-6pm))

Taking Children's Creativity to the next level in the Doodlebug way of course! Weekly 2 hour art Workshops teaching various techniques, using different mediums culminating in a Masterpiece at the end of the term. Small, relaxed groups tailored to those with a love of Art and who want to expand their knowledge and ability. 

Places will be limited and early booking is advised. 

Doodlebugs 12 - Week Art Programme Outline
Commencing Friday 10th January 2025 4pm-6pm
Ending Friday 4th April 2025 (end of term - Schools finish at 1.30pm) so the programme will run from 2.30pm - 4.30pm.
NB There will be no programme on Friday 21st February 2025 due to Half Term.

Age Range: 7-11 years
Cost: £25 per week (introductory), £30 per week after the first course
Location: Back of the Baptist Church, London Colney Kings Rd, St Albans AL2 1EN
Group Size: Maximum 8 children

Programme Highlights:

Materials Provided:
• A3 art pad
• Portfolio
• Art materials

Homework and References:
• Students will reflect on their art, bring references, take photos, and conduct sketching studies.
• Combine studies and references to create a final piece in the last week.
• Explore and practice different techniques and mediums.
• Use positive self-talk to support and motivate their artistic journey.

Weekly Breakdown:
Week 1:
• Mark Making and Elements of Art: Line, shape, space, value, form, texture, and color.
• Practice observation and tonal values.

Week 2:
• Introduction to Drawing and Mark Making: Muscle memory, grids, and basic shapes.
• Use of fineliner over pencil sketches.

Week 3:
• Grid drawing: mastering line drawing using grid structure to practice mapping composition.

Week 4:
• Colour Theory: Explore colour wheels and mixing.

Week 5:
• Art Styles and History: Study various art styles, from realism to abstract including cartoon style.
• Prepare for personal artwork using photo references and inspiration from famous artists.

Week 6:
• Create Art Inspired by Preferred Artist: Produce a piece influenced by a chosen artist.

Weeks 7 & 8:
• Develop Personal Style: Plan, practice, and refine original artwork techniques. Learning to draw techniques learning to see not the form but beyond, draw upside down to see pattern shade etc...

Weeks 9 & 10:
• Practicing with different mediums

Weeks 11 & 12:
• Final Artwork: Focus on creating and executing an original piece using skills learned.

Additional Notes:
• Students are encouraged to take their own photos and practice skills learned in sessions to achieve proficiency.
